Star Wars fans seem to be more excited about Lucasfilm’s Disney+ series The Mandalorian than they are for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We have yet to see a trailer for it officially released, but one was shown at Star Wars Celebration that ended up blowing fans away! More footage from the series will be coming to D23 later this summer. Maybe during that event, the trailer will officially be released online.
Jon Favreau, the writer and producer of the series, recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmell Live and it was there that he confirmed he’s already working on writing The Mandalorian Season 2! Disney+ and Lucasfilm have yet to greenlight a second season, but Favreau is going to be ready for it when they do.
When talking about the series, which is set after the events of Return of the Jedi, Favreau teased:
“All hell is breaking loose in the outer rim, and it’s about the scum and villainy that now wants to take out the rule of law. What happens? Chaos takes over.”
Sounds like the kind of western style Star Wars stories that fans would love to see! The series stars Pedro Pascal (Narcos) as “a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.” It also includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), and Nick Nolte (Affliction).
The plot of the show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order and here’s the synopsis:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Favreau previously said he developed the series as a “low budget affair”, saying:
“Since I wrote most of [The Mandalorian], I wrote it to fit within our volume, and in trying to keep the scale of it like the first Star Wars film, which was a relatively low-budget affair, even though the effects were spectacular.”
The first season of The Mandalorian is being directed Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode and serving as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Additional directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ on November 12th, 2019.
